Olive is the new Black.
Let’s face it…This season, Olive became the new Black. Reigning as a new fashion trend for the 2017 winter/spring season, it’s become a top favorite and has managed to take over the majority of our closet space. From bloggers to the girl next door, it seems like no one is able to resist the ever-present olive allure. It’s sexy, with a rough and tough attitude that can compliment just about every color. I mean, what more could you really ask for?
So, want to be a part of the in-crowd this week? Then listen up as I go over the basics…
Fashion Trend #1: CAMOUFLAGE PRINT
“On Wednesdays we wear camo.”
From LA to New York, and everywhere in between, camo print has been flaunted all over the fashion-ridden streets (Chicago being no exception). It’s currently one of the hottest prints of the year, sizzling fiercely with a stylish flame that cannot be extinguished. Some of my favorite camouflage pieces that I’ve spotted have been cropped bombers and parka jackets. They’re ideal for layering and bringing that desired, edgy appeal.
Drawstring joggers and denim also rank high on my list with their effortless adaptability. They can pair with a clean set of sneakers or sultry heels, taking you from sporty to SPICY in an instant! Blogger, @therealkarlaj is a perfect example of how to make this athletic style, look mod and flirtatious.
Fashion Trend #2: THE LOD.. LITTLE OLIVE DRESS.
“On Wednesdays we wear little olive dresses.”
While Coco Chanel made the little black dress a staple piece for the fashion-forward woman, over here at AKIRA, we decided to switch things up. Targeting all the modern-day fashionistas, we’re swapping out the little black dress for a number with contemporary olive charm. After all, fashion bears no bounds, so bending the rules occasionally is a given!
Nothing beats an olive, hip-hugging dress. With the utmost curve accentuation, and a color that flatters any skin-tone, you’ll be bringing a heat that even the coldest Chicago day can’t fight. The dress directly below is one of my top style picks among this new fashion trend. It’s the perfect way to show off your assets, while still keeping it tasteful. I mean come on, look at trendsetter @beyandall…FLAWLESS! She kept it classic and stuck with a simple bodycon dress, solely using a few accessories to amp up her olive inspired look.
While I love this look on @Beyandall, I am absolutely swooning over @Palomaford in the AKIRA ‘Que Satin Shift Dress’ in olive green. I consider this dress to be vastly versatile, as it holds the ability to transition from a daytime look to an after-dark ensemble.
Since it’s a shift dress, you can team it up with just about anything – from strappy heels to thigh-high boots and mid-calf booties. Adding a detailed belt can also bring a hint of uniqueness and personality, plus it’ll hold down the bottom half of the dress. After all, we aren’t called the Windy City for nothing!
Fashion Trend #3 : IF THE BOOT FITS
“On Wednesdays we wear heeled booties .”
Some say you can create an outfit starting with the shoes, but I believe it’s the finishing piece! An olive bootie can really pull everything together, matching just about every hue in the neutral family (black, nude, blush and so on). For example, take a look at this saucy pairing by @Stylebyvixen. Below you will see that she combined the AKIRA ‘Killin The Lux Game Wide Fish Nets’ with a killer, pointed-toe bootie. It’s effortless, daring and an easy look to recreate. Trust us, nothing looks more powerful than a woman strutting her stuff in a good pair of boots.
