Your field guide to festival fashion

LBH, you’ve been curating your ‘free spirited but also totally on top of the trends’ boho Insta-ready festival Look since before you bought the tickets. We’re talking denim shorts, a floaty top, complicated strappy sandals, probably a flower crown, and colorful OTT sunglasses. Good work! Now open up your brand new vintage-looking backpack, ‘cos we have some suggestions.

  • Add a hat that will keep the sun off. Baseball, floppy, fedora, whatever your head/heart/outfit desires.
  • Trade short skirts for shorts or long skirts. You’re probably gonna have to sit your ass on the ground at some point, so do yourself a favor and pack to avoid that uncomfortable flashing-everyone-in-sight feeling. Wearing biker shorts works too, although keep in mind you probably want to avoid adding layers of clothing when it gets climb-into-the-refrigerator hot.
  • Switch out your sandals for closed-toe espadrilles. Or pack both. It’s up to you, boo, but don’t come crying to us when someone steps on your foot in the crush to see Beyoncé.
  • Take out that feather headdress/bindi/any other item that could be construed as cultural appropriation. What’s a fashion accessory to you might be a significant part of someone else’s identity. Be cool to all.
  • Bring a scarf. Like, obviously not a woolly scarf. A spring scarf. Scarves are kind of magical; they can be a wrap for your shoulders when it gets chilly, a blanket when you wanna sit on the ground (seriously, embrace sitting on the ground), and if you’re going somewhere dusty, they become an excellent mouth shield against sandstorms. And when you don’t need its magical powers, you can tie your scarf around your waist, which sort of makes up for that mini skirt you had to leave behind.
  • Have so much fun. Get dressed, admire your outfit, then get so caught up in the moment that it’s not until you see your snaps later that you realize how smokin’ you looked.

Not just another pair of denim shorts

Rewrite your short story.

From the front it looks like a skirt, specifically a new take on that ’70s-inspired high waist denim mini that was so 2017. But underneath the wrap front, it’s actually high-waisted shorts, cut H.O.T. at the back. Now you can have your denim mini skirt without that flash of fear (or fear of flash).

Internet Poet Denim Shorts

Who says boho has to mean loooong skirts? Break out the flowers and the paisley and the floaty fabric in these lightweight shorts. They’re super comfortable, which is really key when you’re outside all day and changing is not an option, and (drum roll) they have pockets. And they aren’t just practical: the high waist, tie belt, and patchwork kind of print add enough detail to get you snapped for the style round-up. (Don’t forget to mention us.)

If these have caught your eye, you’re probably the ‘responsible’ friend. The one everyone else is relying on to work out all the details, the one who knows how to get there, and the exact schedule of all the acts you want to see so you don’t have to run from one stage to the next. You are the true hero of this mission, and you deserve shorts that recognize your effort to use your organizational talents to maximize the fun. These camo shorts are for you, made from stretchy denim with a comfortable high rise waist, and pockets on the sides and butt, which is a must. They also have a sporty stripe up both sides, which says yeah, I am the one who remembered to pack my reusable water bottle, but don’t think there isn’t a hip flask hidden on me somewhere.

Bare it, baby.

Fairground Floral Crop Top

Fairground Floral Crop Top

Bright colors + ruffles + off the shoulder = where do we get our ticket to this top? This crop top has a floral-and-geometric print that’s vintage meets contemporary, plus the shirred waist and elasticated neckline are extremely appealing when you want to pull it on (or off…) and go. If you’re into coordinating, check out its matching maxi skirt.

Vacay Forever Floral Printed Crop Top

Look, this is your once-a-year out-in-the-sun dreaming-of-it-since-December opportunity to go wild, so make your fashion match your free-wheeling feels. We love this top that’s celebrating all things summer, from the off shoulder neckline to those ruffled sleeves, to the colorful tropical-inspired yes-that-is-a-pineapple print. If you love this top, chances are you’re the kind who’s determined to seize every second. We’ll be looking out for you in the f’row.

Some people just aren’t into the floaty, fussy, ruffled-ness, and we love you all, so we’ve got alternatives. This crop top fits close, made from shirred stretchy fabric, with this very tiny rose print and colorful stripes. Plus at the back it’s got these lace-up details and a tie halter neck, to keep things boho rather than blah.

When the night has come

The stars are out, the temperature is plunging, but you came prepared.

Vital Signs Crop Hoodie

Vital Signs Crop Hoodie

Does the same job as your beloved oversized hoodie, but it won’t take up ALL OF THE SPACE in your backpack. This cropped hoodie is made from lightweight terry cloth – you know, that really soft fabric you get in toweling robes – with long sleeves, and obviously a hood, which is gonna come in really useful if the wind gets up (happens).

Know The Drill Button Down Shirt

Know The Drill Button Down Shirt

This faded shirt is multi-talented. Back in your not-at-a-festival life, it functions as a good casual shirt, the kind you can wear to the movies on the weekend, or to a workplace that leans easygoing. And it can do that at the festival too, or it can be the thing you pull on when the sun has gone down and the temperature has gone from scorching to pleasantly balmy. It’s lightweight and soft, with buttons so you can leave it open or do it up, and straps in the sleeves so they can roll up or stay down. Plus that kind of faded look makes it seem like it’s lived through a few festivals already, no matter how green you really are.

Please Stay Embroidered Tie Front Blouse

Please Stay Embroidered Tie Front Blouse

Keep out the shivers without cramping your boho vibes in this sort-of Greek island-inspired blouse. Our two favorite details are those bishop sleeves and the colorful embroidery, but we also love that it’s made of breathable cotton, so it’s not gonna heat up like an Easy Bake Oven at noon, and it will fight off the nighttime breeze. We were thinking of wearing it as a cardigan, but it’s also good as a top on its own.

Got all that? Good, now you’re ready to shine.
